St Mary Royal of the Almudena

If you’ve always dreamed of getting married in the same place as the kings of Spain, Felipe and Letizia, now you have the opportunity to do it in the crypt of the Almudena Cathedral. You will not enter through the main door, but through another equally important one. Its elegant and stately architecture welcomes you, and the patron saint of the city awaits you in her temple!

Cripta Catedral Almudena

Church of Saint Ginés

The Church of Saint Ginés was built in the middle of the 17th century, is a magnificent location in the Calle Arenal in Madrid, a magnificent place to say “I do”. Its building, together with the paintings and sculptures housed inside, form an important historical, artistic and architectural ensemble of Madrid de los Austrias. Don’t you think it’s a magical place to celebrate a beautiful religious ceremony?

Iglesia de San Ginés

Church of St. Mary Magdalene

This temple belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarchate of Moscow and is the cathedral seat of the Diocese of Madrid and Lisbon. It is located at Gran Vía de Hortaleza, number 48. It is inevitable that you will stop to contemplate this monument. Its aesthetics are striking from the very first moment, due to its striking 5 golden domes, which represent Christ and the 4 evangelists. The white of its façade represents purity.

Iglesia Ortodoxa de la Magdalena

The Royal Basilica of Our Lady of Atocha

This is one of the favourite venues for the bride and groom who get married in Madrid and want to celebrate the banquet in La Real Fábrica de Tapices as they are in the same street and just a few metres away. This huge church is located very close to the Atocha Renfe station and the Retiro Park, where you can make some spectacular photos!

Basílica Nuestra Señora de Atocha

Church of San Jerónimo el Real in Madrid

The former monastery of San Jerónimo el Real, known as Los Jerónimos, was one of the most important in the capital, originally governed by the Order of Saint Jerome. The church, which has been converted into the parish church of San Jerónimo, and a Renaissance cloister still survive from the convent. Both the church and the convent were closely linked to the life of the Court and the Spanish monarchy.

Royal Oratory of the Caballero de Gracia

This oratory is one of Madrid’s hidden treasures. Its façade, a doorway set into a street off the Gran Vía, hides a Romanesque-style temple, the work of Juan de Villanueva. The church belongs to the Eucharistic Association of the Caballero de Gracia, founded by Jacobo Gratii (known as the Caballero de Gracia), currently part of Opus Dei.

Real Oratorio del Caballero de Gracia

Church of La Paloma

Royal Church of San Pedro is popularly known as the Church of La Paloma. Its construction began at the end of the 19th century. Tradition tells that Queen Maria Luisa of Parma, wife of Charles IV, was devoted to the Virgin Paloma. Its façade is notable for the twin towers that stand on either side.

Royal Basilica of Saint Francis the Great

The Royal Basilica is located in the historic centre of the capital. It was built in the 17th century in the neoclassical style and is notable for its dome, its interior decoration and its art gallery. In November 2001, after decades of construction work, the church was reopened to the public. On its main façade you can see statues installed on the balustrade. Its baroque decoration inside is outstanding.

Real Basílica San Francisco el Grande

San Marcos Church

Besides being among the best churches to get married in Madrid, it is also one of the most flexible, everything is easy. This Spanish parish church is located on Madrid’s Calle de San Leonardo, 10 (formerly Calle de San Marcos), opposite the right side of the Edificio España, although two centuries before this skyscraper.

Church of the Old Convent of Boadilla

This church is not in the city of Madrid, but it is only a few kilometres away and it has something that none of the previous ones have, that’s why I think it is one of the best churches to get married in Madrid. It is located inside the hotel complex El Antiguo Convento de Boadilla del Monte where you can also celebrate your wedding banquet.

San Pedro Mártir Parish Church

Among this list of the best churches to get married in Madrid, it is undoubtedly the quietest in terms of logistics as it is situated in a suburban area of Madrid. It is located in the district of San Chinarro. Nearby you have a park that is quite big and cool to take some pictures, the Parque de San Chinarro. Besides being one of the best churches to get married in Madrid it is also the cheapest.

Parroquia de San Pedro Mártir

Chapel of San Antonio de la Florida

The chapel was ordered to be built by Charles IV and was decorated by Goya, who painted the frescoes that tell the story of the saint’s life. In order to maintain the conservation of the frescoes, it was decided to build an identical temple next to it in order to move the cult and reserve the original as a Goya museum.

Sanctuary of Santa Gema Galgani

Sanctuary of Santa Gema is a temple located in the Colonia de El Viso in Madrid (Spain) devoted to Santa Gema. It is located in front of the Plaza de Santa Gema (Chamartín neighbourhood, near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium). The church is famous because the relic of the heart of Saint Gemma, which arrived from Rome in 1985, is venerated there.

Fabrica de Tapices

Church of San José

The Church of San José is a catholic temple with an exceptional location at Calle Alcalá number 43. This baroque church is built on a Latin cross plan, it has a central nave and two side aisles. And, its interior has a large number of impressive works of art, making it a perfect place to celebrate the ceremony of your big day. It was founded in 1586 by Fray Nicolás de Jesús y María. This building was demolished at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1730 Pedro Rivera was in charge of the current construction.

Iglesia de San José

Church of La Concepción

This Catholic church follows a neo-gothic style and you can find it in the famous Madrid Street Goya with Núñez de Balboa. The construction of the Iglesia de la Concepción took place between 1912 and 1914. Its spire is just over 40 metres high and it is crowned by an iron structure of the Immaculate Conception. Will you say “Yes, I do” here?

San Antón Church

Do you know a church with Wifi and plasma screens, where you can go with pets and have a coffee 24 hours a day? No, it’s not a joke. All this is a real in the Church of San Antón, where Father Ángel and his NGO Mensajeros por la Paz have included such initiatives to attend and to be closer to Madrid’s homeless. This baroque church, which houses a large part of the skeleton of Saint Valentine, patron saint of lovers, is also known for hosting the celebration of the feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot every 17 January, when the people of Madrid come with their pets to receive the saint’s blessing.

Church of the Sacrament

It is located in the former convent of the Bernardas del Santísimo Sacramento. The building with a baroque style was ordered to be built by the Duke of Uceda (son of the Duke of Lerma) and powerful minister of Philip III, who in 1616 had his first nuns from the Santa Ana monastery in Valladolid, who came to Madrid. After the Duke fell into disgrace, the church was left in a state of neglect, until the Archbishopric of Madrid ceded it to the 1st Military Region to become the seat of the Military Vicariate. Since that time the convent became the Military Cathedral of the Armed Forces.

Iglesia Arzobispal Castrense

German Church of Peace

Did you know that there is a church hidden behind the wall at number 6 Paseo de la Castellana? Yes, like other Central European capitals, Madrid also has its own clandestine Protestant church, the Friedenskirche or Church of Peace, which was a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II to the German community living in the capital. As it was a persecuted cult at the time, the building must have been constructed at the rear of the estate, with no bell tower to identify it from the outside. Its interior combines Roman and Byzantine elements. It is one of those hidden treasures and secrets of Madrid that are definitely worth a visit.

Iglesia alemana de la Paz

Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel

The Basilica of San Miguel is located in Calle de San Justo, right in the area known as the Madrid de los Austrias. It is a small church for intimate ceremonies, but it stands out for its Spanish Baroque decoration and its convex façade. Construction began in 1793, but doesn’t it look like a very charming place?

Basílica Pontificia de San Miguel

Church of San Antonio of the Germans

This was built in 1624 as a complement to the Hospital de Portugueses, created by Philip III. After Portugal’s independence, the name of the church and hospital was changed to San Antonio de los Alemanes. It is located very close to the Gran Vía, and its exterior goes unnoticed due to the sobriety of its façade. However, the surprise lies inside. It is an elliptical-shaped church, painted entirely, and the main theme is the life of San Antonio de Padua.

San Fermín de los Navarros

The Church San Fermín de Los Navarros is located in the central Madrid neighborhood of Chamberí and was declared a Monument of Cultural Interest in 1995. It has a neo-Mudejar style and was built in 1746. On the other hand, the interior is in the Gothic style, with a Latin cross plan and three naves. The stained-glass windows, in horseshoe arches, bear the coat of arms of Navarre.

San Fermín de los Navarros

Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro Parish Church

It is located in Calle de Manuel Silvela, Nº14, in the Chamberí neighbourhood, near metro Bilbao and Alonso Martínez. It is quite big and very beautiful. You can celebrate the banquet very close to Palacio de Cibelesand take some great photos in Retiro Park, which is also very close by. This is one of the best churches to get married in Madrid.

Collegiate Church of San Isidro

This was the provisional cathedral of Madrid until the inauguration of the Almudena Cathedral. The church was built in the 17th century by Jesuit architects and houses the mortal remains of the patron saint of Madrid, San Isidro Labrador, and his wife, Santa María de la Cabeza. During the Civil War, it was completely destroyed, although the remains of San Isidro were saved by being hidden behind a wall.

Colegiata de San Isidro

Church of Santa Bárbara

The Church of Santa Bárbara was founded as a monastery in honour of San Francisco de Sales in 1748 by Queen Bárbara de Braganza, wife of Fernando VI, hence its name. History has passed through this building from the time of the Revolutionary Sexenio when it was used as the Palace of Justice to its current religious function. The decoration of the façade with pilasters and the statues of San Francisco de Sales and Santa Juana Francisca Fremiot is outstanding. Inside, there are the tombs of the kings of that period.

Church of San Manuel and San Benito

The Church of San Manuel is located on Calle de Alcalá, opposite one of the entrances to the Retiro Park. The dome of this building is the best example of Madrid’s neo-Byzantine architecture, where the four evangelists are symbolically represented. The interior is especially noteworthy for the Epistle side chapel with a white marble altar in the centre and the two tombs of the couple who were the patrons of this work on either side.

Iglesia De Santa Barbara

The Church of Saint Andrew

In La Latina, another of Madrid’s famous district, you will find the Church of Saint Andrew. This building dates back to the end of the 12th century and was once frequented by San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of the capital, and Santa María de la Cabeza. It is a famous building in the area where you can say “I do” to each other in a very special way.

C/Alcalá, 43.
